This study presents a comprehensive mobility network model designed to predict and optimize the energy supply for FEVs within smart cities. The model integrates advanced components such as a Charge Station Control Center (CSCC), smart charging infrastructure, and a dynamic user interface. Important aspects include analyzing power consumption, forecasting urban energy demand, and monitoring the State of Charge (SoC) of FEV batteries using innovative algorithms validated through real-world applications in Valencia (Spain) and Ljubljana (Slovenia). Results indicate high accuracies in SoC tracking (error < 0.05%) and energy demand forecasting (MSE ~6 × 10−4), demonstrating the model’s reliability and adaptability across diverse urban environments. This research contributes to the development of resilient, efficient, and sustainable smart city frameworks, emphasizing real-time data-driven decision-making in energy and mobility management.} }

Concurrently, the rise in electric vehicles (EVs) offers a promising shift towards sustainable urban transport yet introduces complexities such as the need for extensive charging infrastructure and effective energy demand management. This study addresses these challenges by proposing a predictive model for real-time and future traffic volume estimation, leveraging historical data, real-time information, scheduled city events, and the availability of EV charging infrastructure. The methodology proposed employs actuarial techniques to create a comprehensive framework that predicts traffic patterns and optimizes energy resources within smart cities. By integrating variables such as historical traffic patterns and real-time data, our model provides accurate traffic forecasts essential for urban planning and energy distribution. We utilize a time-series based algorithm to predict traffic, validated through real data from pilot projects in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The study’s findings underscore the model’s potential to enhance urban mobility and energy efficiency, providing a robust tool for city planners and policymakers.} }

An application to Spain}, journal = {Investigaciones Regionales - Journal of Regional Research}, year = {2024}, doi = {10.38191/iirr-jorr.24.057}, url = {https://doi.org/10.38191/iirr-jorr.24.057}, abstract = {Cross-section and longitudinal spatial statistics and econometric models rely on spatially and temporally referenced data. Administrative units like cities, counties, and provinces provide stable data sources, enabling models to combine statistics collected at different times. In Spain, census sections serve as the smallest territorial units in which official statistics are delivered. These areas offer valuable statistics, such as population and housing censuses. Providing these statistics at the postcode level is also pertinent for conducting local analyses and surveys. The issue is that boundaries of census sections undergo regular updates, sometimes involving significant reorganization. The R-package sc2sc automates the transfer of variables between different census sections and postal codes. This paper introduces the package and outlines its methodology, which employs areal weighting to transfer counts and rates.} }

The system adjusts to real-time grid conditions, electricity prices, and user preferences, providing a dynamic approach to energy distribution in smart city infrastructures. The key focus of the study is on reducing peak loads and enhancing grid stability, while minimizing charging costs for end users. Simulations were conducted under various scenarios, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed system in mitigating peak demand and optimizing energy use. Additionally, the system’s flexibility enables the adjustment of charging schedules to meet both grid requirements and user needs, making it a scalable solution for smart city development. However, current limitations include the assumption of uniform tariffs and the absence of renewable energy considerations, both of which are critical in real-world applications. Future research will focus on addressing these issues, improving scalability, and integrating renewable energy sources. The proposed framework represents a significant step towards efficient energy management in urban settings, contributing to both cost savings and environmental sustainability.} }

The note describes some of these new roles assumed by UME, such as its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and shows, using official temporal and georeferenced data, the growing use of the military to support civilian authorities in response to natural disasters, man-made disasters, and other emergencies alike. In addition, we also analyze public opinion survey data to argue that this is helping to improve society’s perception of the armed forces even in a country like Spain where, due to its recent history, a significant part of its population is reluctant to the military. In short, the military is taking on more emergency roles as needs arise and these new roles can help to improve its perception by citizens.} }
