  • Pattern recognition and computer vision. Recognition and machine learning techniques applied to linear and nonlinear models. Continuous distance learning. Heterogeneous and high dimensional data mining, with special emphasis on image analysis and retrieval and audio and video signal processing.
  • Parallel computing and distributed systems. The line focuses on the application of high performance computing techniques, and the development and optimization of distributed platforms within the cloud computing paradigm, for problem solving in the field of Big Data, Multimedia Applications and Intelligent Systems
  • Signal Processing (Sound). Advanced methods for the capture, analysis and synthesis of acoustic signals, including music and voice processing, room acoustic simulation, 3D playback methods and intelligent monitoring of acoustic environments.
  • Intelligent tutoring systems. Currently, we are working on ways of knowledge representation that allow supervising the resolution of tasks by the student and incorporating affective support, through the detection of emotions by means of techniques from the field of Computer Vision.
  • Telecommunication networks and systems. This line of research focuses on the development of new network architectures and protocols, as well as on the creation of advanced telecommunication systems to improve communications between users. The work carried out by this line includes the development and implementation of new services, technologies and network architectures focused on improving the quality of end-user experience.
  • Advanced Wireless and mobile communications systems. Advanced transmission and reception techniques in modern broadband wireless communication systems, cooperative MIMO transmission and reception, cellular-based vehicular communications, low-complexity MIMO algorithms, cognitive radio, radio environment maps, deep learning applied to communications problems, software defined radios.
