Lines of Research

  • Care in aging. Aging is a process associated with losses and gains. Caring properly for aging individuals is a challenge in our aging societies. Our aim in this line of research is to explore the models of care in residential and community settings, and in particular, integrated care centred on the individual from a gender perspective.
  • Psychological well-being. Psychological well-being is synonymous with good mental health throughout life. Our aim in this line is to analyse the predicting variables of well-being in aging individuals.
  • Discrimination against old people, ageism and social exclusion. Age discrimination reduces the chances of aging well. Our am in this line is to reflect on diversity in aging, age discrimination, ageism and social exclusion, focusing on risk factors and protection (LGBT, disability, minority groups, women).
  • Social support, loneliness and social participation. Loneliness and social participation go hand-in-hand throughout the life cycle. They are related to social support. There are internal determinants as well as external or environmental ones. Our aim in this research line is to analyse the risk factors of and protection against loneliness, as well as participation in old age, especially in rural communities and socially excluded groups.
