Among its many activities, the Real Colegio Complutense primarily focuses on academic exchange through research fellowships and grants that allow professors, researchers, and doctoral students to conduct research at Harvard and other affiliated institutions. The Academic Council reviews the submitted applications and allocates available funds to applicants with the best academic trajectories and the most noteworthy projects. Acceptance into one of these programs means becoming a Fellow of the Real Colegio Complutense.
Through its partnership with the Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard, the Universitat de València offers the opportunity for professors, researchers, and doctoral candidates of the UV to apply for funding for research stays at Harvard University. The following information is available on the different programs offered by the RCC.
Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (RCCH 2+2)
- Two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard with an endowment of $72,000/year (amount updated annually by Harvard), followed by a two-year return contract at the Universitat de València.
- For doctoral students who have recently defended their theses with a cum laude qualification. This fellowship is especially directed at those who have been awarded FPU, FPI, or Generalitat Valenciana scholarships or those who have received scholarships from or have been contracted by the Universitat de València for research programmes or projects. This last point is NOT a requirement, but a recommendation of the Universitat de València. In any case, the call requires the applicants to be Spanish citizens or citizens of one of the Schengen countries who have a permanent residence permit in Spain.
- Requirements: acceptance letter from a Harvard University department, acceptance letter from the corresponding UV department, J-1 visa, and TOEFL iBT certificate (Paper Edition) with a minimum score of 100.
- Application period open from January 1st to April 15th 2025. Recipients of these postdoctoral fellowships must be in residence at Harvard on September 1st of the calendar year in which the fellowship is awarded, at the receiving center of Harvard University.

Faculty Long-Term Research Fellowships
- Funding for research stays of 2–6 months at Harvard University or affiliated institutions for UV teaching and research staff with a full-time contract in any position ranging from Assistant Professor to Full University Professor, whether as a civil servant or labor staff. The research stay cannot start before September 1st 2025 nor end after July 31st 2026.
- Requirements: invitation/acceptance letter as a “Visiting Scholar”, “Visiting Researcher”, or “Visiting Fellow” and develop the stay with a J-1 visa from the US government. The invitation letter must clearly state that the receiving centre will provide the applicant with a work space and access to the necessary resources to develop the research at Harvard University (labs, libraries, etc.) if needed.

Faculty Grants for Short-Term Funded Visits
- Travel grants for professors for short stays, from one month to six weeks, with specific funding. The current funds for travel grants amounts to $2,500, an amount updated annually by Harvard.
- Requirements: invitation/acceptance letter from a full-time professor or head of a department or center at Harvard University. The invitation letter must clearly state that the receiving centre will provide the applicant with a work space and access to the necessary resources to develop the research at Harvard University (labs, libraries, etc.) if needed.
- Application period open year round. Application must be submitted at least 3 months prior to the start date.

Short Non-Funded Visits
- One-month stays for doctoral candidates and professors with their own funding.

Predoctoral Short-Term Research fellowship
- New type of grant included in the 2025 call.
- Research stays, funded at Harvard University or its affiliated institutions, 3-5 months, for students enrolled at the Doctoral School of the Universitat de València, whose programs or contracts (FPI, FPU, etc.) don’t provide international mobility funding for the students. The research stay cannot start before September 1st 2025 nor end after July 31st 2026. The applicants must be Spanish citizens or citizens of one of the Schengen countries who have a permanent residence permit in Spain.
- This fellowship has an endowment of $3.000/month, which is compatible with other International Mobility aids that the applicant could additionally obtain for this stay. In any case, this aid will be exclusively for students enrolled at the Doctoral School of the Universitat de València, whose programs or contracts don’t provide International Mobility funding for the students.
