Ramon y Cajal Fellow at the University of Valencia Since 2021. He obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry in 2014 and then he performed a Post-doc at Monash University(2014-2019) and was a Marie Marie Skłodowska-curie fellow at TechnologicalUniversity Dublin (2019-2021). As a Principal Investigator, he has obtained >500K Eurosin funding from institutions in Spain, Ireland, Europe, Australia, and Asia. He has a track record in analytical chemistry specializing in chemometrics and vibrational-spectroscopic techniques, having published more than 70 articles (h-index=22) and 4 book chapters on the issue. He has also experience in translational research and is the named inventor of 2 patents. He has recently been the guest editor of the special issues in the journals “Chemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems” and“Microchemical Journal” (Elsevier).
After completing a bachelor's degree in chemistry (2008-2013) and obtaining a master's degree in experimental chemistry techniques at the University of Valencia (2014), he joined the Perinatology Research Group at the La Fe Health Research Institute (Valencia) as a research technician. Over the course of 3.5 years, he worked on the development of analytical methods in neonatal research, specializing in the processing of biological samples, chemometric analysis, and various instrumental techniques such as liquid and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, vibrational spectroscopy, enzymatic techniques, and immunoassays. This work was conducted in a hospital setting, providing experience in implementing analytical methods in clinical practice and translational research.
After receiving a competitive predoctoral PFIS grant from the Carlos III Health Institute in 2017, he pursued a Ph.D. in chemistry within the same research group (2017-2022), including an international research stay with the aptamer group at the LIMES Institute (Bonn, Germany).
Currently (2022-2024), he is benefiting from a competitive Margarita Salas postdoctoral fellowship (Ministry of Universities) and conducting a research stay with the Bioactive Lipid Synthesis group at the Max Mousseron Institute of Biomolecules (CNRS-University of Montpellier, France). Additionally, they are part of the Spectrometrics group, working on vibrational spectroscopy and machine learning applications for clinical analysis.
Miguel de la Guardia is a prominent professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Valencia, known for his extensive research in green analytical chemistry, automation of analytical methods, and environmental analysis. He has authored over 550 scientific publications and several books on green chemistry and food analysis. De la Guardia also became the editor-in-chief of the Microchemical Journal, where he focuses on innovative techniques in analytical chemistry, including spectroscopy, chromatography, and sensors, with applications in disease diagnosis and environmental monitoring
Salvador Garrigues Mateo is a professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Valencia (Universitat de València). His research focuses on analytical chemistry, with significant contributions in the field of Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. He has published extensively on topics such as the analysis of environmental contaminants, the development of green extraction techniques, and applications of spectroscopy in both industrial and biochemical contexts. He also serves as the coordinator of a PhD program in Experimental Techniques in Chemistry at the university
Victor is a PhD student at the University of Valencia since 2022. After finishing his studies in biochemistry and biomedicine in 2021, he started working at the Specml group. After staying 6 months at the Raman Imaging group from the Jagiellonian University, he obtained a fellowship from the Spanish science ministry to start his PhD with DPG as his supervisor. He has experience in biofluids, cell culture, vibrational spectroscopy and microspectroscopy and chemometrics. His PhD thesis is focused on Point-of-Care applications of clinical spectroscopy.
Jaume is a PhD student at the University of Valencia since 2022. After finishing his studies in chemistry in 2022 he started working at the Specml group after obtaining a competitive contract (INVEST/2022/95), where he started working in his PhD focused in the development of analytical methodologies based on vibrational spectroscopy and machine learning for the analysis of biomedical and forensic samples adn the implementation of these methods in user-friendly applications suitable for use by non-qualified personnel.
