This event allows Gandia to be recognised as a leading case study in the field of local development with an international focus.

This Thursday, April 23, the city of Gandia will be the host of a technical workshop focused on sustainable local development, as part of the International Seminar “New Challenges for Sustainable Local Development,” organized by the Universitat de València in collaboration with Brazilian Service of Assistance to Micro and Small Enterprises (SEBRAE, Brazil)

The visit to Gandia is part of a knowledge transfer program that brings together Brazilian institutional leaders and Valencian researchers with the aim of exchanging experiences and best practices in areas such as regional innovation, sustainability, and local economic development, and is supported by the Joan Noguera Chair.

Throughout the day, the delegation will take part in various activities that will give them a firsthand look at initiatives and projects being carried out in the city. The program will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a visit to Urbalab Gandia, a hub for social innovation and a community-driven lab dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized businesses.

Later, at 12:00 p.m., there will be a tour of Gandia’s Historic Commercial District, led by the merchants’ association, to examine models for revitalizing commerce and strategies for urban competitiveness.

After the lunch break, the conference will continue at 3.30 p.m with a session about the installation of renewable energy systems in public buildings, promoted by the Ayuntamiento de Gandia (Gandia Townhall), as an example of the local politics oriented in the sustainable energy.

Finally, the visit will include a tour of Gandia Beach, where topics related to tourism management and sustainable coastal development will be discussed.

This event highlights Gandia as a leading case study in the field of local development, showcasing both its strengths and the challenges it faces in terms of sustainability, innovation, and regional management.

The international seminar, taking place from April 20 to 24, is part of a new phase of cooperation between the Universitat de València and SEBRAE, and aims to strengthen ties between Europe and Latin America in the area of sustainable local development. Likewise, the event is part of the recent establishment of the SEBRAE–Universitat de València Chair, which opens a new framework for international collaboration focused on knowledge transfer, territorial innovation, and institutional strengthening.
