The chair of Territorial Thinking Joan Noguera from the University of Valencia started a study about the education necessities of the high school students in Gandia and the region of la Safor, with a goal of learning about academic and professional interests of the young people in this area.

The study is being developed by a survey addressed to the kids from the first and second year of high school and advanced training courses, which is already in the distribution among the educational centers. The questionnaire, that is voluntary and anonymous, can be filled out online within few minutes and provides a detailed overview of the student´s educational expectations.

Among other matters, the survey asks the students about the area of studies that they see themselves pursuing in the university (for example Arts and Humanities, Science, Health Science, Engineering and Architecture or Social and Legal Science). Moreover, is requested that the students select up to 3 fields of studies, that they are interested in, from a broad list of university titles and majors in Biology, Nursing, Computer Engineering, Law, Business Administration and Management, Psychology or Preschool Teacher, among others.

The goal of the research is to guide the future implementation of the new bachelor and master´s degrees and postgraduate programs that respond better to the educational, social, economic and territorial necessities, especially in Gandia and its region.

The survey is being distributed thanks to the Department of Education of the Town Council of Gandia and CEFIRE from Safor., as well as the direct involvement of the management teams and the professors of junior high schools, who are playing the key role in supporting and providing the academic guidance for the students.

The Chair of the Territorial Thinking Joan Noguera highlights the importance of participation by the educational centers so that the study reflects accurately the real concerns of young people, thus contributing to the university planning that is more in line with the territorial reality.

The results of the study will serve as a strategic tool for the educational policies making and to strengthen the connection between the university system and the territorial development of Gandia and la Safor.
