
The meeting, which was held in collaboration with Les Corts, Europe Direct and the Jean Monnet Chair, from June 17 to June 21 and was also attended by a group of students from Ukraine.
More than fifty students and professors from the different universities of the FORTHEM Alliance gathered at the Faculty of Law of the Universitat de València to analyse the European Parliament elections and their political implications. The activity was part of the Short-Term Mobilities actions promoted by FORTHEM and was held entirely in English in morning and afternoon sessions.
The meeting, organized by professors Oscar Barberà and Ramón Villaplana, was attended by students from the universities of Burgundy (France), Jyväskylä (Finland), Riga (Latvia), Mainz (Germany), Sibiu (Romania), Palermo (Italy), Agder (Norway) and Valencia, as well as a delegation of students from Ukraine sent by the University of Opole (Poland). During these days, several professors from different FORTHEM universities participated, such as Dominique Andolfato and Sohie Monnier (Burgundy), Jasmin Fitzpatrick and Hanna Paulke (Mainz), Carla Monteleone and Manoela Patti (Palermo), Abit Hoxa (Agder) and a large group of professors from the University of Valencia such as Juan Rodríguez Teruel, Lidia Valera, Antoni Seguí, Melany Barragán and David Gil. The conference counted with some guests from other universities such as Nicolò Conti (Sapineza) and Gianluca Ferraro (Portsmouth) and the intervention of Ana Enguídanos from the Service of Relations with the European Union of the Generalitat Valenciana.
Among the topics discussed at the various round tables were the political and socio-economic context in Europe, the electoral campaigns and the results of the elections to the European Parliament, the institutional impacts of the election results, as well as the future of European policies. In addition, practical activities were carried out in which students explained the political context in each of their countries. The delegation of students from Ukraine gave their views on the effects of the new European political situation on EU-Ukraine relations and on the country's accession process to the European Union. The students also participated in a negotiation simulation at the European Council, led by members of Europe Direct Valencia, and were able to attend a guided visit to Les Corts Valencianes.
