I obtained my bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from the Universities of Salamanca (1983) and Valencia (1988). At the latter, I was awarded my doctorate with a PhD on the evolution of Magdalenian of lithic and osseous industries in the Iberian Mediterranean region, between the Ebro and Gibraltar.

I am currently Professor of Prehistory at the University of Valencia.

My research has focused on the study of the Late Palaeolithic and Mesolithic in the Iberian Mediterranean region, linking palaeoclimatic and palaeogeographic changes with techno-economic, social and symbolic dynamics at local and regional scales. I have studied the evolution, distribution and density of hunter-gatherer-fisher populations between the Pleniglacial and the Early Holocene. To address these objectives, I have collaborated with colleagues in the earth and materials sciences on stratigraphic and chronological studies, focusing on sequence analysis, techno-economic aspects (small game, plants, marine resourcesand isotopic analyses), territorial organisation, personal ornament, use of ocre and funerary practices based on various sites (Cueva de Nerja, Cueva Victoria, Santa Maira, Parpalló and l’Hort de Cortés·VF, amongst others).
