Pofessor of Physical Geography in the Department of Geography at the University of Valencia, specializing in Remote Sensing and GIS. She earned her undergraduate degree in Geography and History and her doctorate from the University of Valencia. She received the Extraordinary Doctoral Prize for her dissertation, “The Temperature of the Balearic Sea from Satellite Images” (1989). She completed her postdoctoral training at the Centre de Océanologie de Marseille (IFREMER) and at the Department of Geography of the University of Bristol (Fleming/MEC Grant, 1991-92 academic year), and was a visiting researcher at King's College London in 2003.
Her research has focused on the development of remote sensing methodologies and applications for the analysis of Global Change in Mediterranean areas. Notable pioneering contributions include the design of the NBR index for detecting burned areas, which has a recognized international impact; an alternative atmospheric correction model for satellite images; and her work on the spatiotemporal variability of temperature in the Mediterranean Sea. Her most recent publications address the recent warming of the Mediterranean and environmental changes on the Valencian coast. She has participated in several competitive multidisciplinary research projects at the European, national, and regional levels. The results of her research are reflected in more than 80 scientific publications.
She has combined her research with ongoing teaching, instructing courses in Cartography, Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Climatology, Marine Hydrology, Geography, and the Environment at various undergraduate (Bachelor's degrees in Geography and Environmental Sciences, Bachelor's degree in Geography and the Environment, Bachelor's degree in History) and postgraduate (Master's degrees in Remote Sensing, Master's degrees in Techniques for Environmental and Territorial Management, and Master's degrees in Heritage) programs at the University of Valencia, and has participated in several educational innovation projects.
She has also held university management and representation positions. She has served as a member of the faculty and the Board of the Faculty of Geography and History, coordinator of Exchange Programs for the Geography Bachelor's degree, member of the Research Committee of the University of Valencia, Department Secretary, and coordinator of the Geography and Environment Bachelor's degree at the University of Valencia (2018-2024). She was a member of the Geographic Information Technologies Group of the Spanish Association of Geographers (2014-22) and president of the Organizing Committee of the XVIII GIT Congress (Valencia, 2018). She participates in various scientific societies, editorial boards, congress organizing committees, and national and international scientific evaluation committees.
