Short Bio. Dr. Maite Ojeda-Mata is Associate Professor (Professora Permanent Laboral) in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Valencia in Spain. She was previously a Marie Skłodowska-Curie European Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The Parkes Institute for the Study of Jewish/non-Jewish Relations, University of Southampton, United Kingdom (2017-2019), and a Juan de la Cierva Postdoctoral Researcher and Alianza 4U Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Humanities, Universitat Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona, Spain (2010-2016). She was also a Civic Education Project Visiting Faculty Fellow at the University of Samarkand (2002-2004). She received a Ph.D. with European Distinction and Honors in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona, Spain (2009), under the supervision of Professor Verena Stolcke and Professor Michel Leiberich, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Jewish Studies at the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies, University of Oxford (2001), under the supervision of Professor Jonathan Weber. She completed her postgraduate training at the Central European University and the University Eötvös Loránd of Budapest. She is interested in the link between political and legal processes and the symbolic-conceptual dimension of the definition of identities in the context of power relations between socio- and ethnoreligious groups, particularly in the field of Jewish/non-Jewish relations. She is the author of Modern Spain and the Sephardim: Legitimizing Identities (Lexington Books, 2017), which is an updated and extended version of the book in Spanish Identidades Ambivalentes: Sefardíes en la España contemporánea [Ambivalent Identities: Sephardim in modern Spain] (Sefarad Editores, 2012) and the co-editor of Judíos entre Europa y el norte de África, siglos XV-XXI [Jews between Europe and North Africa, 15th-21st centuries] (Bellaterra, 2013).
