Biography

[Antonio Laguna Platero (Valencia 1958), has a degree in Geography and History from University of Valencia (1981) and doctor for the same (1986). He was a Collaboration Scholar in the Contemporary Department (courses 1979-80 and 1980-81), and Research Staff Training Scholar from 1982 to 1986. From 1986 to 2003 he was a professor of History of Communication at the San Pablo University Foundation CEU (later Cardenal Herrera Ceu University), where he held the positions of Department Director, School Director and Vice Dean of Research. From 2010 he became a full professor of History of Communication at the Faculty of Journalism of the UCLM, where he also practiced Dean's responsibility from 01/09/2010 to 06/30/2016. He has been a visiting professor at the universities of Leipzig, Université de Franche-Comté, UNAM of Mexico, University of Buenos Aires and the University of La Plata. In the field of research, his main work has focused on the history of propaganda, journalism and humor. His doctoral thesis, on republican federal propaganda, has been disseminated through various publications in specialized journals and in the form of books, where he has addressed the strategies (Republicans and Republics in Spain published by the 21st century), the protagonists (Sorní, 1983, Orense, 1984, Blasco Ibáñez, 1988, Bonilla, 1989) and the media (El Mercantil Valenciano, 1994 and El Pueblo, 1999). He is the author of the first history of Valencian journalism (Valencia, 1990) and co-author of two books on the history of communication published by the editorial Síntesis in 1996 and 2015. He coordinated the congress "Humor in the History of Communication", held in Cuenca on October 21 and 22, 2013, as well as the resulting book and has published several works on the satirical press, especially on Eduardo Sojo (Don Quijote) and Vicent Miguel Carceller (La Traca). In the professional field, he has been Director of Studies and Planning of the Delegation of the Government in the Comunitat Valenciana (2004-05); Communication Director of the PSPV-PSOE (2005-2007); Councilman in the City council of Paterna in the 1995-1999 legislature, with the position of First Lieutenant of Mayor; collaborator of Levante- El Mercantil Valenciano and directed the collection "Papers de Premsa" of the Press Association of Valencia (1986-89) In other merits, it is worth noting that it has been awarded national prize for research in Humanities, Ángel Herrera, awarded by the San Pablo Foundation in January 1999 and the prize for the best historical essay in the "Jocs Florals de Paterna", in August 1983, for the work entitled "Qui perd els origens perd la identitat". He has been president of the Association of Historians of Communication since 10/22/2012 to 9/15/2017. He is a member of the editorial boards of the journals Areas, History and Social Communication, International Journal of History of Communication and Portuguese Journal of História da Comunicação, and was director, from 1993 to 1996, of the journal Communication and University Studies of the Foundation University San Pablo CEU.
