Biography

José Juan Castelló Pastor is Lecturer of Private International Law at the University of Valencia. He has a Bachelor of Laws (2000), Master of Laws (LLM) from Queen Mary College of the University of London (2001), Doctor of Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Valencia (2015), Extraordinary Doctorate Award (2016 /2017), Juan de la Cierva-MINECO postdoctoral fellow (2016).

He is the author of various articles in national and international magazines on intellectual property, technology and contracting; and two monographs (“Search engines and copyright: infringement and liability” 2016 and “Digital damages and personality rights: determination of the competent court in international conflicts originating on the Internet” 2022). He has been director of the collective work "Legal challenges in the face of digital integration: European and international aspects", Aranzadi (2021); co-director of the work "Electronic contracting law and electronic commerce in the European Union and Spain", Tirant Lo Blanch (2021); in addition to being editorial secretary of the Comments on the Intellectual Property Law (2017), directed by professors Palau Ramírez and Palao Moreno and edited by Tirant Lo Blanch (2017). Director of the International Congress "The protection of rights in the digital environment" (ed. 2019, 2021 and 2023 respectively). He has participated in different national and international conferences as a speaker and communicator. His areas of knowledge are copyright, electronic commerce, the information society and private international law.

Principal Investigator of the research project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and the European Union (NextGenerationEU funds) entitled "Towards a person-centered digital transition in the European Union" (2022-2024). Previously, P.I. of the emerging R&D&I research project funded by the Generalitat Valenciana (2019-2021) “The protection of rights in the digital environment: new challenges, challenges and opportunities”.

He has carried out research stays at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition in Munich (2012), Fordham University (2013-14), the University of Bologna (2016), the University of Mainz (2017) and the University of Columbia (2018 and 2022), the latter with support for mobility stays abroad José Castillejo-Ministerio Edudacion (2021).
