Resources

The University of Valencia (UV) offers students of the Doctoral Program in Optometry and Vision Sciences a wide range of resources to support their training and research. The main resources available are detailed below:

General resources:

> Libraries: The UV has a network of libraries that provide access to a vast collection of books, scientific journals and electronic databases. On the Burjassot campus, students of the program have access to the "Eduard Boscà" Science Library, a centralised library on scientific subjects where they can find bibliography and scientific publications associated with the lines of research of the doctoral program. In addition, the Library Service of the University of Valencia offers access to databases specialising in health sciences, such as MEDLINE, PUBMED, among others.

The library offers a variety of services to support the university community:

- Online courses, designed to develop digital skills aimed at students of the University of Valencia.

- Access to electronic resources, facilitating access to complete collections of electronic books through platforms, especially useful for those who cannot physically go to the library.

- Extended hours, with extensions during periods of high demand, such as before exams, to provide adequate space for study.

- Diversified spaces, including reading rooms and access to bibliographic resources specialized in science.

- Trobes service (trobes.uv.es), a platform that allows students to locate and access bibliographic materials available in UV libraries, as well as electronic resources and scientific publications. This service facilitates the consultation of essential references for the development of doctoral research. The TROBES service is the search and discovery tool for bibliographic resources at UV. It allows global searches to be carried out in the UV's own resources and in a large number of external databases, many of which are full text. In addition, it provides information on the availability and location of documents and allows the management of loans, renewals and reservations of bibliographic material.

> Study rooms: Distributed across the different campuses, the study rooms offer suitable spaces for individual and group work, providing an environment conducive to concentration and learning.

> Computer rooms: The centre has a computer room available to its students, as well as teaching rooms with a video projector. These rooms allow students to carry out data analysis, simulations and other activities related to their research.

Specific resources of the Doctoral Program in Optometry and Vision Sciences:

> Specialised laboratories: The program has several laboratories equipped with advanced technology for carrying out experiments and practices in Optometry and Vision Sciences. These spaces allow doctoral students to carry out experimental research and develop essential practical skills. The resources available in these laboratories depend on the research groups that manage them, and their funding comes mainly from external sources. These resources are maintained and expanded thanks to the raising of funds through projects financed in public calls or through collaboration agreements with private companies.

In addition, the center provides the following specialized teaching laboratories for students in the doctoral program: advanced optics laboratory, visual perception laboratory, contact lens room, low vision laboratory, and complete optometry rooms. All optometry rooms have a patient chair, phoropter, complete test box, projector or optotype screen, keratometer (Javal or Helmholtz type), slit lamp, retinoscope, and some have a video system and tap water batteries for use in contact lenses. In addition, centralized material is available, including 2 Goldman campimeters, computerized campimeter, FDT campimeter, air tonometer, corneal topographer, OCT system, and autorefractometer.

> Optical instrumentation: Students have access to a variety of optical instruments necessary for research in this field, such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) equipment, tonometers, corneal topographers, and autorefractometers.

> Collaborations and agreements: The UV maintains agreements with institutions and companies in the visual health sector, which facilitates the implementation of applied research projects and access to additional resources for doctoral students.

> Optometric Clinic (UV Clinics): During the 2008-2009 academic year, the Optometric Clinic of the Fundació LLuís Alcanyís was launched, one of the six clinics that make up the Clíniques de la Universitat de València. Since then, it has participated in the training of students in the area of Optics and Optometry. It consists of six complete offices and an examination room equipped with the most advanced technology for visual analysis. The Optometric Clinic offers clinical assistance for visual health, supported by ongoing training and research. It is capable of hosting doctoral theses with clinical projection in the area of Optometry and Vision Sciences.
