PRECEDENTS AND CONSTITUTION
The current Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology of the Universitat de València comes from the area of knowledge of the same name belonging to the Department of Developmental and Differential Psychology of the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences, and from the Chairs of Philosophy, Sociology and Psychology of the Teaching Schools of Valencia and Castellón.
In May 1985, the Senate of the University of Valencia approved the Statutes that came into force on 17 December of the same year. These statutes established the new academic-administrative structure of the University, which included the creation of new Departments and their management bodies. The new Departments had to be constituted before 17 December 1987.
On 11 April 1986, at the meeting of the Department of Developmental and Differential Psychology, it was agreed to create a new Department that would take the name of the area of Developmental and Educational Psychology. On 18 September the new Department was constituted, and Dr. Francisco Rivas Martínez was unanimously appointed as coordinator and Dr. Esperanza Rocabert Beut as Secretary. At that time, 17 professors (Francisco Rivas, Francisco Alcantud, Ana Miranda, Antonio Clemente, Narciso Sáez, Adelina Gimeno, Ángel Latorre, Josefa Lafuente, Eduardo Vidal-Abarca, Mª Teresa Torrecilla, Mª Dolores Aparisi, Rosa Mª Grau, Vicente Pinto, Vicente Martínez, Emilia Serra, Esperanza Rocabert and Mª Eugenia Gómez-Ferrer) formed the Department.
On May 8, 1987, the first Department Council was constituted, composed of 27 members including PDI, students and PAS, with teaching in the Faculty of Psychology and the University Schools of Teacher Training of E.G.B. of Valencia and Castellón. At the same meeting, Dr. Francisco Rivas Martínez was appointed Director of the Department, in accordance with the new Statutes, and on 2 June 1987, the first Internal Regulations of the Department were approved.
On June 8th of the same year, the Departmental sections of the Department were constituted in the E.U. of Teacher Training of E.G.B. in Castellón and in the E.U. of Teacher Training of E.G.B. in Valencia. Months later, on 29th October, the first Permanent Board is constituted and the first representatives are elected in Commissions and work groups related to the Internal Regulations of the Department.
