Professor Dr Elena Martínez García, member of the Justicia sostenible en estado de mudanza global (JUSOST) – CIPROM 64/2023 GVA project, participated last 11 June 2026 in the Congress on Mass Litigation in the Civil Proceedings, held at the Faculty of Law of the Universitat de València.
As part of this scientific meeting, which brought together experts in order to analyse the main challenges posed by mass litigation in the civil proceedings, professor Martínez García delivered a lecture focused on the adaptation of collective actions as tools of strategic litigation in climate action and for the protection of the interests of future generations.
During her intervention, she reflected upon the growing importance of collective actions as a procedural mechanism for addressing conflicts of a global dimension, particularly those concerning environmental protection and the safeguarding of rights to those who are not born yet. In this context, she emphasised the need to adapt traditional procedural tools to the new challenges that derive from climate change and intergenerational justice.
The lecture highlighted the potential of the strategic litigation to strengthen the effective judicial protection of collective and diffuse interests, as well as the importance of incorporating a new perspective of sustainability into the evolution of civil procedure, enabling legal responses capable of addressing issues that transcend individual interests.
The participation of Elena Martínez García in this congress forms part of the research lines developed by the JUSOST project, especially those aimed at studying the protection of collective interests, protection of future generations and the construction of a sustainable justice model adapted to the major social, environmental and legal challenges of the 21st century.
