Professor Dr Carlos Esplugues Mota, full professor of private international Law at the Universitat de València and member of the Justicia sostenible en estado de mudanza global (JUSOST) – CIPROM 64/2023 GVA project, has been selected by the European Commission to take part of the subcommittee of experts who are in charge for the revision of the Regulation (UE) 1215/2012 (Brussels I bis), one of the fundamental rules of the European judicial area in the civil and commercial matters.
The subcommittee is composed of 27 specialists from different States of the European Union, selected because of their distinguished academic and professional career paths in the fields of private international Law and in the international judicial cooperation.
The work of this group of experts started in May 2026 and it is expected to finish in February 2027, with the preparation of proposals aimed at updating and improving the Brussels I bis Regulation, a key legal instrument for determining the international jurisdiction and facilitating the recognition and enforcement of judicial decisions throughout the European Union.
The participation of professor Esplugues in this legislative review process constitutes an important recognition to his research career path and his contribution to the development of the private European International Law. Moreover, it strengthens the presence of the Universitat de València and the JUSOST project in the main international forums, where future policies and regulation frameworks of the European justice are designed.
This appointment aligns with the objectives of the JUSOST project, focused on the analyses of the procedure of the justice system transformation in a global context of change, and it contributes to strengthen the international dimension of the developed research by the team on matters related to judicial cooperation, sustainability of the justice systems and the construction of a more efficient and adapted European judicial system to the contemporary challenges.
