Apart from registration and deregistration options from the lists, the server Listserv implements a series of additional services such as:
- Giving information on the theme, lists’ diffusion and its members
- A control (more or less wide) of the list’s access: who can and cannot subscribe to the list, who can send messages to it, etc.
- Automatically archive the messages sent to the list and give a way of access to them for future reference.
Mostly all these functions can be accessed through the web interface, but there is also the possibility of using your email account; for so, you must send specific commands to the server in the message’s body. The server processes and sends the result back in one (or more) messages directed to the sender’s address.
In previous sections, we have seen some of them: subscribe, unsubscribe
It is important to highlight that all commands must be send to the server’s address, never to the list’s address.
In our case, our server’s address is:
Sending commands to the server
In order to send commands to the server it is enough to put each command on a different line of the message (we can send several commands in only one message) and send that message to the server’s address: listserv@listserv.uv.es which will process them and, via email again, will send the answer back. For example the line:
Help
Makes the server send us a message with a brief description of its functioning, the commands it recognizes, etc.
For more details, check Listerv’s documentation; accessible from the homepage of the server or also directly from L-Soft’s website.
