Fuenmayor reflected on VAT and analysed whether lowering this tax on food would have a significant impact on people’s pockets.

In the context of high inflation in Spain, many foods have become more expensive, making it difficult for many families to make ends meet. For this reason, some politicians, such as Alberto Núñez Feijóo, are calling on the Government to reduce VAT on the most basic products in the shopping basket.

In the interview, Amadeo Fuenmayor is asked about the nature of VAT and how it is currently levied on different types of food. In addition, the interview also discusses how VAT could be modified in Spain and whether a rate cut would be the most advisable measure to tackle rising inflation.

Amadeo Fuenmayor concludes that lowering VAT on some products would not have a significant impact on final prices, therefore he recommends implementing other types of policies to mitigate the negative effects of rising prices.
