The refurbishing design maintains the elements catalogued by the Demetrio Ribes Chair for Industrial Archaeology of the Universitat de València as pieces of historical and artistic value.

The Port Authority of València (PAV) has begun construction work on the refurbishment and adaptation of the plot where the new public passenger terminal of the Port of València will be located. The project conditions specify that the elements of the old shipyard listed as historical by the Demetrio Ribes Chair for Industrial Archaeology of the Universitat de València and the Department of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility of the Valencian Government must be respected.

The project has been designed taking into account energy efficiency with the installation of photovoltaic solar panels, the removal of polluting and hazardous materials, support for the circular economy and respect for the environment, as well as the conservation of the heritage elements of the infrastructure. It will be a historic and emblematic building of the maritime València that will continue to serve the city and its citizens –more than a hundred years after its construction, now with the most modern environmental technologies.

Among the tasks carried out by the Demetrio Ribes Chair are the preparation of reports and the provision of heritage advice to institutions and organisations with the aim of raising awareness and advising on future actions on elements of Valencian public works, transport and industrial heritage.
