Professor of Administrative Law, María Jesús García García, director of the Jean Monnet Chair "Services of General Economic Interest in the framework of social and territorial cohesion”, will give the course “Services of General Interest in the Framework of the European Union” in October. Enrolment for the course can be done online and does not entail any costs for those attending as the it is financed by the Chair with European funds.

The course is aimed at all those who wish to study this subject in depth, whether undergraduate, postgraduate or graduate students, professionals working in any branch of activity related to services of general interest, as well as the general public as consumers and users, since the European legislation related to services of economic interest applies to many areas of activity, such as electricity, water supply, public transport, postal services, basic banking services, and in some cases health and social services, to name a few, which are addressed to consumers. Thus, the course will provide knowledge for future professionals, or professionals already working in a field of activity in growing demand in the labour market.

The 20 teaching hours of the course will be divided into 7 thematic blocks: services of general economic interest (SGEI); the legal regulation of SGEI and their area of responsibility; the law of economic regulation; the public service and the regulated market; the regime of exceptions to the rules of the internal market and competition; public-private partnerships in the management of SGEI; and the EU procurement rules.
