The Chair of Intelligent and Sustainable Territories was present at the 1st Meeting of University Chairs of Sustainable Mobility on Tuesday 11 February in Alicante, where its director, Juan José Martínez, highlighted the definition of the environmental quality of cities through green city indicators and urban mobility as one of the commitments of the chair he represents. The event was organised by the Vectalia Mobility Chair of the University of Alicante and favoured the exchange of ideas, collaboration and the presentation of initiatives that reinforce sustainability policies.

The collaboration between the Universitat de València and the Provincial Council of Valencia makes it possible to offer services to city councils so that, for example, they can know the flow of movement of vehicles in circulation through sensors and the councils can design mobility plans. This monitoring of vehicle and user routes through mobile devices, Martínez pointed out during the meeting, is always carried out with anonymized data and is one of the tools that enables the Chair to fulfil its objective.

In this sense, the Chair of Intelligent and Sustainable Territories aims to promote digital transformation in the rural environment by encouraging the development and implementation of technological and sustainable solutions, favouring the competitiveness and innovation of the business fabric of the territory.

The challenges discussed at the 1st Meeting of University Chairs in Sustainable Mobility also focused on increasing the number of public transport users and reducing traffic jams, among other issues.
