THE FACULTY OF GEOGRAPHY AND HISTORY, IN COOPERATION WITH UNESCO CHAIR-UNIVERSITAT DE VALÈNCIA, DEDICATES THE MONTH OF JUNE TO FOOD AS A SOURCE OF CULTURAL HERITAGE, IDENTITY AND DEVELOPMENT

The Faculty of Geography and History promotes, from its Sustainability Committee, a I Set of Activities about Food, Culture and Development that includes a specialised seminar about the topic, a film forum and some immersive experiences. In the seminar, which will take place at the Faculty of Geography and History on June 15th, 16th and 17th (see attached programme), researchers and specialists from institutions in Europe, Asia, America and Africa will participate. The seminar will analyse how food, as well as playing a fundamental role on health and people’s well-being, is part of the immaterial culture of the villages and, consequently, a driving force for identity, communal strengthening and local development. The seminar will finish on the morning of June 17th and will be followed by a little film forum on that same evening. The film forum will take place at the Aula Magna of the La Nau Cultural Centre and will be dedicated to the Ceremonia del Té (Tea Ceremony), which has ancient roots in Japanese culture. This will open the series of immersive experiences that will be developed at the Valencian Botanical Garden on the evenings of June 21st, 22nd and 23rd, dedicated to the culinary traditions of South East Asia, where food, daily life and ritual come to life in a coordinated manner.

This first Set of Activities has been developed as part of the objectives proposed in the project submitted by the Faculty of Geography and History to the UNESCO Chair call of grants for Education actions for Development, Global Citizenship and Awareness in the academic year 2021-2022, which was granted. On the other hand, this is the first Set of Activities linked to the International University Observatory of “Immaterial Culture and Global Village”, which was also created in 2020-2021 related to these UNESCO Chair-Universitat de València grants.
