With the purpose of exchanging ideas on circular economy both in the field of training and investigation, the head of the Chair for Transformation of the Economic Model: Circular Economy in the Water Sector of the Valencian Government and the Universitat de València (GVA-UV), Francesc Hernández, visited the installations at the Technological Park of Gran Canaria.

The park is managed by the Foundation of Science and Technology Parks of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Town Council of Gáldar and the Municipal Association of the North of Gran Canaria.

The meeting was an opportunity to learn first-hand about the numerous actions being promoted by the Circular Economy Experimental Area of the aforementioned technology park, especially in the areas of water and energy, that aim to promote strategies to transform the current economic model towards a circular economy--strategies that are fully in line with the objectives and activity of the Chair.

For Hernández, this meeting meant “the reinforcement of the exchange of knowledge and experiences” that will allow solid progress to be made in the challenge of implementing circular economy projects that are viable and sustainable at both the public and private level.” Furthermore, “promoting engagement between universities, public entities and private companies will be the key to success in the transformation of the economic model towards a circular economy,” the professor explained.

Likewise, as a hub for economic an business development, this technological park is a benchmark for its specialisation in the circular economy and for its commitment to sustainability, which allows the value of products, materials and resources to be maintained in the economy for as long as possible and waste production to be reduced to a minimum. Therefore, as the expert underlined, “from the analysis of experiences, funding possibilities and the design of common strategies, very positive results are expected in the field of sustainability and circular economy, especially in the water sector.”
