What does it mean to include gender perspective in youth work? What does it mean for our interventions? What does it mean for our interventions to have an impact on equality as youth workers?

Janis Piñana, a youth expert, counsellor, trainer and equality agent, asserts the importance of incorporating a gender perspective into interventions with young people.

The principle of equality is widely acknowledged by institutions all over the world. However, legal equality has not been accompanied by equality in all areas of life, real and effective equality, since inequalities and discrimination persist in society.

Consequently, educational intervention is essential to achieve real equality through co-education. Moreover, it is essential to assess the potential impact of our intervention on equality, with the aim of preventing any contribution to the perpetuation of inequality. It is therefore necessary to analyse the impact of our interventions from a gender perspective.

Intersectional gender perspective and equality are fundamental to all youth intervention, occurring throughout all phases and not limited to specific days.

Take a look at this and the other training modules from the first season of the Youth Chair pin-jove project, which can be found in this section.
