
The full university professors Ana Camarasa y Joan Romero, directors of the Chair for Climate Change, Territory and Environmental Risks in the Mediterranean of the Universitat de València, have participated in the first session of workshops “Risks, safety and democracy” celebrated in the University of Alicante.
The workshops are led by Joan Romero, emeritus full university professor of the Universitat de València (UV); Manuel Alcaraz, tenured professor of Constitutional Law of the University of Alicante (UA), and Jorge Olcina, full-time university professor in the UA. To them they also assisted renowned personalities such as the own Ana Camarasa, full university professor of the Universitat de València, director of the Chair for Climate Change, Territory and Environmental Risks in the Mediterranean along with Joan Romero.
During the whole workshop the attention went to the events happened in the province of Valencia during 2024, the DANA on 29, October, related to the warnings and communication and coordination dynamics between the different authorities and administrations as for catastrophes and emergencies.
Joan Romero commented the necessity of raise awareness to a social level and in Administration of the importance of safety and prevision to avoid evitable damage in complicated environmental situations that could happen. In a similar sense, Ana Camarasa talked about “the democratisation of knowledge” about aspects such as floodable areas or climatic risks “it must reach the population”.
