Opening Ceremony of the Master's Degrees Year 2020-2021: Classes in the 16 official master's degrees of the Faculty of Economics begin in face-to-face mode

On Monday, October 5, the Opening Ceremony of the Course 2020-2021 of the 16 master’s degrees in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Valencia took place.

This year, as in other sectors of economic and social activity, the negative effect that the pandemic is having on international mobility has been reflected in the enrollment of graduate studies, with an 18 percent decrease in students from other countries, especially Latin America (334 students in 2019, 272 in 2020).

Meanwhile, the enrollment of students of Spanish nationality has remained practically stable, slightly exceeding 500. The result is that almost 800 students will be able to receive face-to-face, and unless circumstances impose new restrictions, their postgraduate training in our Faculty, the center of the Valencian Community with the widest range of official master's degrees in economics and business.

But, as the Dean stated in his welcome words, quantity is not the only important issue. Most of the Master’s degrees at the Faculty of Economics have a very long history and for many years have contributed to the insertion and professional development of thousands of graduates in areas such as economics, banking, finance, accounting, business innovation and management, quality, marketing or tourism. Former master students are now professionals who now hold positions of responsibility in companies and public and private institutions, as corroborated by the Third Study of Labour Insertion carried out by UVJob and in which, among other results, it is worth noting that 87% of the masters' graduates are employed, 90% of whom have a job that matches the level of their studies and, in addition, 74% are in technical positions with people in their charge.

The Opening Ceremony, followed in person by a reduced audience in the Sánchez Ayuso Hall and by hundreds of students in online format through streaming broadcasting, included an inaugural lecture, entitled "Training for a world managed by data", by Lucy Bannister and José María de Azpiazu, Academic Program Lead and Partner Manager, respectively, of Qlik, one of the three world's leading platforms in data analysis and Business Intelligence.
