
On 25 November 2025, from 9:00 to 13:00, the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy at the University of Valencia will host a conference linked to the ESCAPERS European project, focused on lifelong learning and on the potential of intergenerational programmes for social transformation. The event will feature the participation of the Valencia Alzheimer’s Family Association (AFAV) and specialist teaching staff from the University of Valencia.
The opening session (9:30–9:45) will include an address by Ana María Ruiz, President of AFAV. This will be followed by a presentation of the ESCAPERS project (9:45–10:30) by Mercedes Fernández Ríos and Soledad Corachán Smith. ESCAPERS is a European initiative in the field of adult education, funded by the European Union.
From 11:00 onwards, the conference will continue with two round tables. The first, “Lifelong learning: building bridges between generations” (11:00–11:45), will include contributions from University of Valencia professors Emilia Serra, Ángel Latorre and Juan José Zacarés. The round table, moderated by Nuria Martínez Enguix, will address the role of the university in education across the life course and in fostering intergenerational ties.
The second round table, “The University and the third sector as drivers of social transformation through intergenerational programmes” (11:45–12:30), will bring together a representative of the Faculty’s Dean’s Office (to be confirmed), Professor Mª Pilar Peñarrubia Zaragoza (teaching innovation project INTERGENERACIONES), Professor Ángel Latorre, Ester Recio Chaparro, sociocultural animation officer at AFAV, and Andrea Pardo Martínez, Secondary and Baccalaureate teacher at Ntra. Sra. de Fátima School (Valencia). Moderated by Ana Morón Esteban, the session will focus on collaboration between the university, the third sector and educational centres to design and implement intergenerational programmes with a strong community impact.
