With thirty companies and entities, and more than 40 jobs opportunities, the first of the Employment and Entrepreneurship Forums of the Universitat de València of 2022 started on Monday 31 January at the Faculty of Social Sciencies. `An unbeatable opportunity to learn about the requirements and demands of the professional sectors you will be joining in the near future´, said the Principal of the University, Maria Vicenta Mestre, addressing the students.
The Employment and Entrepreneurship Forum of the Faculty of Social Sciences recovered its presence with a new meeting this ear that was held throughout the day bringing together hundreds of students and 220 people enrolled in the talks, round tables and workshops.
The activities, wich began early in the morning with the presentation of the university job fair by the Vice Principal for Employment and Training Prgorammes, Adela Valero; the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Albert Moncusí; and the director of UVocupació, Marisa Quintanilla, took place both in classrooms and halls of the centre, and outside, where there were thirty stands of the participing companies and entities, mainly dedicated to the political, socail and human resources sectors. In addition, more than 40 job opportunities were offered.
The inagural conference was given by the specialist in socio-economic development policies, digital transformation and equality María Ángeles Sallé, with the title "Professionals in the Social Sciences in hybird world of work"; and then followed the round table "Career opportunities in the field of Social Sciences", wich established a debate between three graduates of the Faculty, graduates in the degrees in Labour Relations, Social Work and Sociology, led by Professor Ricard Calvo
While the tasks of setting up the tents outside the centre were being completed, a large working group took part in an intense and practical workshop on professional skills, led by technical guidance staff from the University's employment service.
By the end, the fair had already taken shape and the different authorities welcomed the Principal of the University of Valencia, who inaugurated the event accompanied by the Vice Principal Adela Valero and the Dean Albert Moncusí.
In the words of the Vice Chancellor, "the aim of the University of Valencia is to build a university oriented employability committed to students and society", hence the "commitment" of the faculties, the UVocupació team, the chairs and foundations to organiza and collaborate in each of the forums, wich she defined as 'an opportunity to learn about all the tools that the University of Valencia has to increase the employability of our students'
Albert Moncusí, for his part, celebrated the recovery of the face-to-face format of the Social Sciences Forum, where 'a sample of the world of work' could be seen through the presence of entities and companies representing the Social Sciences in the Valencian Community, such as professional associations, organisations from the private and publics sectors, and a wide range of professional profiles.
‘An unbeatable opportunity’
Principal Maria Vicenta Mestre presided over the opening ceremony and began her speech by recalling that ‘the academic excellence and cutting-edge research of the university must be complemented by the labour and social reality’ to guarantee ‘the personal and professional development’ of the student body. He said that ‘to help you find a job that fulfils your aspirations, therefore, the dimension of complementarity and the organisation of the necessary initiatives to carry this out is fundamental’, referring to the Forums.
He highlighted three key aspects of these meetings: accessibility to information on companies and professional opportunities, information on the different ways of developing the professional careers of students and graduates, and direct contact with companies, thus facilitating the incorporation of Social Science graduates into the world of work.
‘It is an unbeatable opportunity to learn about the requirements and demands of the different sectors you will want to join as professionals in the near future’, he said, and emphasised the professional consequences of the covid-19 pandemic: ‘In addition to what we have traditional responsibility for in this Faculty, there are the effects of the pandemic, which you will have to analyse together with the changes this entails and research and study the new social dynamics that have so affected the most vulnerable population’.

The rector then visited the companies and entities participating in the Forum, along with the vice rector Adela Valero and the dean, Albert Moncusí. The inauguration of the meeting will be followed by other authorities such as the rector of the University of Valencia, Juan Vicente Climent; the vice rector of Academic Planning and Teaching, Ernest Cano; the deganal team of the Faculty of Social Sciences,the manager of the General Foundation of the University of Valencia, Cristóbal Suria; the director of UVocupació, Marisa Quintanilla; and the director of the Language Policy Service, Rafael Castelló; as well as faculty and students.
Professional associations and master's degrees
La vesprada va estar protagonitzada pels col·legis professionals i els màsters. Els col·legis de Treball Social, de Graduades i Graduats Socials, i de Politologia i Sociologia oferiren diferents xarrades, a les quals van prosseguir les intervencions dels responsables dels màsters de la Facultat (Benestar Social, Direcció i Gestió de Recursos Humans, Gestió Cultural i Prevenció de Riscos Laborals), encarregats d’informar de la possibilitat de continuar una formació en especialització una vegada finalitzats els estudis de grau.
The afternoon was dominated by the professional associations and master's degrees. The associations of Social Work, Social Graduates, and Political Science and Sociology offered different talks, wich were followed by the interventions of those responsible for the Faculty's master's degrees (Social Welfare, Human Resources Managment, Cultural Mangement and Occupational Risk Prevention), who were in charge of informing about the possibility of continuing specialised training once they have finished their degree studies.
The Employment and Entrepreneurship Forums of the University of Valencia are organised by the Vice-Rectorate for Employment and Training Programmes, through UVocupació, in collaboration with the faculties and centres, and are part of the main line of work of the Vice-Rectorate to encourage and promote the employability of university students.

For its part, UVocupació's main objective is to collaborate in the employability of students and graduates of the University of Valencia, as well as being a mediator for new career opportunities. Its team offers guidance and counselling services, training in job search techniques and comprehensive training, and additionally provides the university community with a job portal that gives access to multiple job offers in a directory with more than 1,500 registered organisations.
