The seminar "Just Ecological Transition and Social Change" will briefly analyze the relationship between these two areas.
Following Ernest Garcia, it will differentiate between ecological transition: a process of social change that moves from the current state of transgression of human societies to one compatible with the carrying capacity of the biosphere, and just ecological transition.
The latter is understood as a process of change in production and consumption systems, social and political institutions, lifestyles, and values of the current population, leading from the ecological crisis and its current devastation to a situation compatible with the planet's capacity to sustain human activities, but without substantial degradation of either economic well-being or the democratic system, while maintaining or even increasing the satisfaction of the population's material needs.
The seminar is promoted by El Rincón de la Imaginación Sociológica in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences, the López Piñero Interuniversity Institute, and the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology.
