Sociologist. Specialized in sociology of education, sociology of time and environmental sociology. Since 2018, Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Valencia. I am also head of the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology and leader of the Research Group on School Health and Well-being (GISBE) that coordinates the International Workshop on Time Studies in Childhood and Youth. I am member of the Research Group of Schools for Health Europe (SHE), member of the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS), member of the International Association for Time Use Research (IATUR), member of the Spanish Comparative Education Society (SEEC), as well as member of different research committees at the International Sociological Association (ISA), the European Sociological Association (ESA) and the Spanish Sociological Association (FES). At the moment I am leading the project ‘Student chronotype (mis)match with school time organisation: its effects on health, learning, time use and satisfaction [Kairos]’ project support by Grant PID2021-126846NA-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033. My research interest is to shed new light into how time organization might be affecting the life of school age children. I am studying how different school time arrangements affects the life of school age children and their families. Our main assumptions are that 1) human’s social clocks can be better or worst synchronize with our biological clocks, the better synchronized the better our wellbeing, the more efficient we are and the happier we feel; 2) school time organization is the main influence in the time organization of school children, but parents work schedules also have an influence on children times arrangements; 3) human’s cognitive ability increases with age, as well as our capacity to concentrate for longer periods, however different school systems are more or less sensitive to this; 4) human’s circadian cycle delays towards adolescence, if the social clock doesn’t delay accordingly adolescents tend to desynchronize; 5) families have to cope with time organizations which can be more or less synchronized including work, school and the different members of the family circadian cycles, which are variable at different ages. Regarding my previous research activity, I have worked in public entities of recognized prestige in the field of social sciences such as the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (INGENIO CSIC-UPV) or the Department of Applied Economics (UV). I have directed six research projects, and participated in several other projects, all of them in competitive competition (two European) and five research contracts. The result of my research activity is the co-authorship in ten monographs, twenty-six book chapters and thirty scientific articles. I have got recognized three six-year research periods (sexenios) from 2004-2009, 2010-2015 and 2016-2021. I have enjoyed two contracts as a researcher and four research grants, all of them in concurrent competitive calls at national level except for an international one financed by PRIME network. I have done research stays at Utrecht University (NL), Tallinn Technical University (EE) and postdoctoral stays at Tallinn University (EE), Helsinki University (FI) and University of Oxford (UK). As university teacher I have thirteen years of experience and three recognized five-year periods of approved teaching activity (quinquenios), in which I have taught more than 238 credits, a considerable part of them in English, both in regulated courses of BA, MA and post-graduate of different degrees and public universities, with positive scores in evaluations. I have been Erasmus Teacher at Helsinki University, Tallinn University, RANEPA and Lobachevsky University. I have directed 9 master-thesis at the Master on Attention to Diversity and Inclusive Education (UV) and another 3 at the Master on Inclusive Education (UCV). I have directed 22 final degree works (TFG) at the Faculty of Teacher education, 7 at the Faculty of Social Sciences, 2 at the Faculty of Law (UV) and 1 in the Faculty of Biological Sciences (UV). |
