During the DANA disaster in Valencia, disinformation spread faster than official alerts. Rumors, decontextualized videos, alarming audios and fake news flooded social media at a time when reliable information was most needed. Bulos y barro. Cómo la DANA ejemplifica el problema de los desórdenes informativos (Catarata, 2025) draws on this experience to critically examine the roots of today’s informational disorder.

Authors Dafne Calvo, Germán Llorca-Abad and Lorena Cano-Orón introduce a unique interpretative model, the Standard Model of (Dis)Information (MEDI), to understand the structural, economic and practical dynamics of modern communication. This essay blends theory, lived experience and real examples—such as the hoaxes that spread after the DANA—to explain how and why media chaos takes hold.

The book is also an act of intellectual honesty: written from uncertainty, it raises fundamental questions about the impunity of disinformation, the manipulation of public opinion, and the systematic discrediting of journalism. A necessary read to grasp the challenges of information in times of crisis.
