GreenMite team of the ETSE-UV: winner of the University Design Contest Analog Devices- Würth Elektronik

  • May 7th, 2018

GreenMite team, formed by students of the ETSE-UV, has been awarded on 4th May in Munich with the prize for the International Contest “ADI WE University Design Challenge.”

This contest of technological projects has been promoted by Analog Devices and Würth Elektronik and coordinated by the ETSE-UV (professor José Torres in charge). GreenMite team is formed by students of the IEEE Student Branch of the Universitat de València (IEEEsbUV): Adrián Suárez, Sebastián Mirasol, Víctor Martínez and Gustavo Pérez.

The delivery of the prize took place at Würth Elektronik eiSos’s headquarters by Uwe Bröckelmann, director of EMEA Analog Devices and also by Alexander Gerfer, CEO Würth Eketronik eiSos.

The project presented by GreenMite, winner in the category of Monitoring Environmental Parameters, consists of a network of sensors scattered around the city, obtaining information about the atmosphere and sending it to a central server in order to process it.

Year by year, it increases the number of news related to air quality problems in urban landscapes. This was only the beginning. This phenomenon is increasingly common, as urban landscapes have extended exponentially in the last 50 years. As a consequence, these students decided to employ technology so that citizens can know the pollution index of their cities.

This idea was inspired on the cases of Madrid (2016) and Barcelona (2017), when authorities had to reduce speed levels and limit traffic to decrease C02 emissions. These are indefinite policies most of times and their effectiveness it is not certain. With this project, the effects of these measures could be evaluated and would allow to react in real time.
