The study of metabolism is emerging as a central area in plant biology due to the growing interest in topics such as increasing agricultural production and crops with higher nutritional value, bioenergy, exploiting the chemical biodiversity of plants, obtaining phytonutrients, and adaptation to climate change. Manipulating plant metabolism to achieve some of these applications requires, first and foremost, a precise understanding of how metabolic pathways function and how interact the networks that connect them. Our research focuses on functionally characterizing primary and specialized plant metabolic pathways, studying how they interact with each other, and how they are reprogrammed in response to environmental changes, especially under climate change conditions.
