Description

The aim of this research has been to allow the general population to express their perceptions and thoughts about distractions while driving. Reversing these data to society as a reason and material for thought and provide them to individuals or institutions that have authority on this issue.

For the present study we have used a survey, made expressly and applied to a sample of 1500 drivers, representative of the Spanish population, some variables related to driving distractions has been defined, such as: Importance of driving distractions, negative elements that are perceived in the "permitted factors" currently, how they think distractions should be prevented, to which populations should be targeted prevention (ages, etc).

Furthermore, we have developed a self- study with the following variables: Auto-watching of behaviours: perceived sources of distraction behaviours in yourself and others, risk allocation, external elements perceived as problematic (erroneous signage, hoardings, "advertising vehicles", Internal elements (certain conversations, lighting a cigarette, talking on the phone, plugging the radio, taking a drink or seeing a guide or map).

The tasks developed by the research team were: Development of the survey, pilot monitoring and modifications, item analysis, statistical analysis, and report preparation and conclusions.

Developed by DATS Research Group, in collaboration with METRAS Research Group and the invaluable collaboration of Josep Maria Aragay.
