The Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication welcomed this Saturday 18th of February the seminar “The Occitan footprint in the history of Valencian people through the surnames”. The event took place from 9 to 14h in the Salón de Grados Enric Valor of the centre and has gathered specialists in Valencian anthroponymy, and specialists from Catalonia and Aragón.

During the entire morning scholars of the Valencian anthroponymy (Enric Guinot, Vicent Terol, Maria Teresa Pérez-Villalba, Julia Lorenzo, Emili Casanova, Pep Saborit y Joan Martinis) have talked about the state of the studies about the Occitan emigration in Valencia and the anthroponomic or surname flow left in the onomastic corpus of Valencia. Furthermore, they looked at the medieval and modern emigration, marked by the oldest emigration in Catalonia and Aragón with the conferences of Alexandra Capdevila and José Antonio Salas, trying to do a concrete assessment of the number of surnames that exist in each region, always with the needed caution before a topic that has not been studied a lot and with less documentation than it is necessary.
