Beatriz Fernández Aucejo is the new director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València

Beatriz Fernández Aucejo is the new director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València. She is the first female orchestra conductor in a Spanish university. Fernández Aucejo replaces Hilari Garcia Gázquez, who had been the director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València for 8 years.

“I feel very excited about coming back home just a few years after I was a member of the Orchestra. The Orchestra knows its history and has become one of the most stable platforms for artistic training. In addition, it counted with the excellent work and dedication of Hilari Garcia, therefore I feel a high responsibility on me now,” expressed the new director that will launch herself in the Opening Concert of the University Course on 17th October in the Music Palace of Valencia.

She was born in Paiporta (Valencia). She graduated in Musical training at the Universitat de València. She also graduated in Clarinet at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Joaquín Rodrigo de Valencia. Later, she obtained a piano professional diploma by the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Torrent. Then, she graduated in Wind Orchestra Conduction by the Royal School of Music of London (LRSM) and Orchestra Conduction by the Conservatorio Superior de Música Manuel Masotti Little in Murcia.

She extended her studies in orchestra conduction and carried out courses with Yaron Traub, Peter Gülke, Cristóbal Soler, José Miguel Rodilla, Ernesto Izquierdo, Manuel Galduf, José Mª Cervera Collado, Bruno Aprea, Joshard Daus, George Pehlivanian, Rodolfo Saglimbeni and Michael Tabachnick at the Academia Chigiana (Siena), among others.

She was the assistant director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València, the Jove Orquestra Simfònica de la FSMCV and the Jove Orquestra de la Generalitat Valenciana (JORGV), alongside with the directors Manuel Galduf and Cristóbal Soler.

Among the groups that she has directed as a guest, we can highlight: Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València, Orquesta del Conservatorio Superior Masotti Little de Murcia, Joven Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Jove Orquestra de la Generalitat Valenciana, Orquesta de Valencia, Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, Banda Municipal de Madrid, Banda Municipal de Santiago, MendelssohnSymphonia, Europa ChorAcademie, Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss am Rhein, Orchestra del Conservatorio Cherubini di Firenze, Orquesta del Festival Internacional de Música de Cancún, Republic Korean Navy Band, etc.

She has been the director of Societat Musical La Lira de Vilafamés (Castelló), Banda Associació Cultural Allegro de Valencia, Societat Musical L’Artesana de Catarroja and Unió Musical de Carlet. During 2015, she was the director of the director Banda de Mujeres and the Joven Banda de la FSMCV.

She has received several awards recognizing her professional career such as the Isabel Ferrer Award of the Valencian Government, Una de Primera by the la Federación Fallas Ciudad de Valencia, Cultural Award L’Espolí de Paiporta 2017, Periódico Aquí Award of L’Horta Sud.

She headed the musical societies from which she was the tenured director. She received several awards. We can highlight the first prizes and mentions of honour obtained in the Certamen Provincial de Valencia (2008, 2011, 2016), and Certamen de Bandas de la Comunidad Valenciana (2011).

Equally, she was a member of the court of the different editions of Certamen Provincial de Bandas de Valencia, Alicante y Castellón, Comunidad Valenciana, Nacional de Catarroja, Nacional de Colombia a la ciudad de Paipa, además del Concurso de Música de Cámara Las Provincias.

She is currently the assistant director of the Banda Municipal de Barcelona and senior director of the Banda Municipal de Barcelona, the Orquesta Sinfónica Ateneo Musical del Puerto de Valencia and the Orquestra Simfònica Unió de Llíria.
