On Tuesday, 4 June, La Nau Cultural Centre will host a colloquium with the columnist and writer Bob Pop, on the occasion of the publication of his book Días Simétricos (Alfaguara, 2023), as part of the university’s Literature Society. The event will take place in the Matilde Salvador Hall at 7pm, and it is the last in a series of activities and colloquiums featuring the most important new publications in Spain. Entrance is free, but the number of places is limited.
The colloquium will be attended by Professor of Constitutional Law of the Universitat de València Fernando Flores and Director of the Literature Society Cristina García. Días Simétricos will be reading Bob Pop’s most intimate and revealing diary, in which he explores his life through memory and identity. Written it when he was 51 – 17 three times, three possible lives, as the author says –, he reflects on his life trajectory and defends the right to remember and be remembered. He deals with themes such as physical and emotional pain, his intellectual curiosity and the cultural influences that have shaped his identity.
Roberto Enríquez, known as Bob Pop (Madrid, 1971), is one of the most famous cultural and social journalists, thanks to his work with Andreu Buenafuente and his presence on radio and social media. He is also the author of Un miércoles de enero and Mansos. In 2021, he won an Ondas Award for Best Comedy Show with Maricón perdido. Días simétricos is a compendium of his diaries, adapted by the author in the shape of a theatrical monologue.
In 2024, the UV’s Literature Society has presented some very interesting proposals at La Nau. The activities began in February with the presentation of two major biographies of the poet Sylvia Plath, and have included authors such as Marc Carrillo, Ferran Torrent, Enric Juliana, Santiago Posteguillo, Antonio Muñoz Molina, who reviewed four decades of literary production with the writer Paco Cerdà, and a debate on Estellés, on the centenary of his birth, with the publishers Ricard Peris, Vicent Baydal, Mercè Pérez and the writer and Professor Purificació Mascarell.
The Literature Society of the Universitat de València, which depends on the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Society, acts as a bridge between literature and university life. It focuses on the promotion of literary creation and the encouragement of reading and writing through various activities such as talks or meetings with writers, conferences, round tables, and reading or writing workshops. Its programme is aimed at both the university community and the general public, and is directed by Cristina García Pascual, Full Professor of Legal Philosophy and Political Philosophy at the Universitat de València.
