The Confucius Institute from the Universitat de València (ICUV), which spreads the Chinese culture and language, has received two important awards, given by the central headquarters of Pekin. Both distinctions rest with the professor Vicente Andreu, who directs the ICUV from its beginning in 2007.
The first of them was conceded as best director, an award that only 42 directors all over the world have received. The second, conceded only to 28 academics, has been for their work as experts in China, in the development to situate the ICUV as a referent of Chinese culture and language in the Valencian Community and for the spread of Chinese culture in all Latin America with the publication of the Lectors Club of the magazine ‘Confucius Institute’.
The prizes have been given this weekend in Pekin, inside the Mundial Congress of Chinese Language, where also participated as a presenter the professor Andreu. The Foundation for the International Education on Chinese was in charge of the organization. These awards to the ICUV, that already have many all along their 17 years of history both of the Chinese central headquarters and institutions and Valencian companies, acquire a special relevance. It has been delivered during the year that China would make 20 years from the first time these centres were created.
Currently, there are a total of 495 Confucius Institutes and 763 Confucius Rooms, distributed in 160 countries and regions around the world. Among them, only half hundred of them are consider “Roll Models”, a recognition that the ICUV already obtained in 2015 when it was the first from Spain on receiving it. In our country there are already 8 Confucius Institutes, being the ones from Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona the oldest in that order. In the same congress the professor from the ICUV, Li Yuanyuan, who has worked at the centre for ten years, also received an special recognition.
For the director of the ICUV, this recognition from the Chinese central headquarters “makes me so happy and consolidates or initial path, that is no other than serving our Valencian society with the spread of the Chinese language and culture, with any resources we can, to all types of people and not only to the university area”.
