Constituted the University Association with degrees in Translation and Interpretation

This month has been constituted the Spanish University Association with official degrees in Translation and Interpretation. The creation is the result of the annual meeting of the Conference of Centres and Departments in Translation and Interpretation done last 7 April in the Universidad de Málaga. 28 universities have joint to the new association- by the approval of Statutes in their respective governing board.
To the meeting attended the professor of the Universitat de València, Cesáreo Calvo, as a representative of the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication as coordinator of the Degree in Translation and Interlinguistic Mediation.
The new president of the association, elected by unanimously in the assemble on the 8 April, is Emilio Ortega Arjonilla, full university professor and head of the Department in Translation and Interpretation of the UMA since 2008, who substituted the dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation of the Universidad de Valladolid, Antonio Bueno García.
The composition of the management board is complete with: vice-president Teresa Fuentes Morán (dean of the Faculty of Translation and Documentation of the Universidad de Salamanca); secretary, Rosario Moreno Soldevila (dean of the Faculty of Humanities of the Universidad Pablo de Olavide); treasurer: Laura Cruz García (dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation of the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria); chairs: Angela Collados Aís (dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation of the Universidad de Granada); Laura Santamaría (dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona); María Jesús Blasco Mayor (vice-dean of the Faculty of Translation and Communication of the Universitat Jaume I de Castellón).
Among the guideline to the next year is the pretending of work in the regulation of the translator and legal interpreter profession in collaboration with institutions like the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior and Foreign Affairs or the CRUE. The association has agreed to analyse aspects of the university training of the translation and interpretation in a national level (high education models, double degrees, post-degrees and doctoral studies) to agree their guidelines. Finally, they will continue with the development of an active politic of collaborations of professionals of translation and interpretation and with supranational entities with own services of translation and interpretation like the EU or the UN.
