European Green Capital València, Universitat de València's IRTIC and Kiwa Spain company have started the "València green, healthy and sustainable" investigation project. It aims to check the city lifestyle impact on the people living in it in order to transfer it to other cities around the globe, particularly within the EU Green Capital frame.

A team featuring the University Research Institute on Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies, the Valencia City Council’s Fundació Les Naus, the Valencian Department of Health and Kiwa Spain within the European Green Capital position of València in 2024 has started the “València, green, healthy and sustainable” project. The project aims to measure the air quality, green spaces and temperature as well as citizens mobility in order to improve their quality of life and keep heading towards a sustainable development.

Focusing on València as its reference city and pilot project, the investigation takes large amounts of data from geographic information, satellite data, AI algorythms and modeling to pinpoint tendencies and patterns to evaluate how impactful implemented policies really are. Public healthcare, urban and environmental experts will collaborate with the project along with the citizens.

European Green Capital 2024 intends to quantify the city’s sustainability and stablish a clear route to transfer to other cities and the future through this investigation project.

The European Green Capital status is an aknowledgement to València as a European reference point, as it showcases its commitment with sustainability and its will to improve its inhabitants’ life. The project leader is the consultant and certification company Kiwa Spain.

IRTIC is to assist Kiwa when finding out and stablishing the most relevant sustainability indicators, and will be in charge of providing a ICT platform to compile the data from different sources in order to calculate the sustainability indexes and validate their efficiency. On its final phase, the project will focus con València and these indicators will be able to be transferred to other local councils as part of the actions from the Cathedra of Smart and Sustainable Territories, in constitution progress from Universitat de València and the Valencian Provincial Council.
