Meye Guide is a methodologic guide for the treatment of mathematics education in pre-schools. The work is the result of the ERASMUS + Mathematics in Early Years Education (MEYE) project. Participants include the University of Valencia and professionals and entities from five European countries (Slovenia, Spain, Poland, Portugal and the United Kingdom).

Meye Guide is the project’s most important and ambitious intellectual product. The originality of the proposals presented, which will be translated into the various official languages of the participant countries, is based on a holistic approach to early education, understanding educational processes in relation to socialization processes and early education centres not only as learning spaces, but also as living spaces. Thus, the design is based on both cognitive and social development, respecting the individualised learning moment and introducing it into the daily life. The proposal is delimited by learning stages, not by age, and based both on this language’s universality and on the need to adapt it to the specificity of each students’ life and educational path, but also of each, family, context or community.

The guide was presented as part of the dissemination and presentation of the results of the Meye project, which includes two other products: MEYE curriculum and MEYE Training. Ana Ancheta, lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences of the University of Valencia, introduced the main improvement proposals for early education curriculum and the structure of the MEYE curriculum intellectual project. This is the starting point for the presentation of changes in the training plan of the Higher Technician in Early Childhood Education in Spain. Carlos Segura (CEFIRE, CTEM) presented the results of the MEYE Training proposal, which includes the design of a training programme on mathematics and its didactics aimed at Early Education professionals and teachers/students of Early Childhood Education, in order to acquire the basic notions on mathematics and its didactics in the 0-6 years’ educational stage.

The ERASMUS – MEYE project was created with the aim of further advancing and developing pedagogical innovation and educational research mathematics education to enrich both early education professionals and students at this educational stage and vital period of the human being. Thus, among the project’s objectives are to improve the initial and continuous training that these professionals have on the area of mathematics and its didactics, as well as to develop innovative products to successfully address the teaching/learning of mathematics in early education and that are available to the educational community, and to promote international cooperation and joint work.
