Ester Alba was born in 1974. She is professor of the Department of Art History of the University of Valencia. Graduated in Geography and History, with a major in Art History, and a PhD in Art History from the University of Valencia, she obtained the Extraordinary Prize of Degree and Doctoral Studies and the Academic Recognition Award of the Generalitat. She currently holds four six-year research fellowships and four five-year teaching fellowships.

Her research focuses on the study and analysis of museology and museography, and art criticism, with special attention to contemporary art and cultural heritage linked to the exchange and dissemination of ideas and knowledge from the visual studies and gender perspective.

Ester Alba has published books, chapters and numerous articles in specialised journals, and has directed research projects focused on the representation of art made by women. She is a member of a national inter-university team dedicated to recovering the art made by Spanish women artists (1804-1939). In the cultural heritage field, she is main researcher of numerous European projects. She directed seven doctoral theses and more than fifty undergraduate degree and master’s degree final projects. She has made research stays at the Spanish Research Council, Ledoux Centre in Paris, Hispanic Society (New York), and at the I Pantheon-Sorbonne University in Laval (Canada), University of Naples Federico II and University of Palermo.

In the management field, she was vice-dean and dean of the Faculty of Geography and History. She is also a member of the University of Valencia’s Statutes Committee and Board of Trustees, as well as director of the University Culture Centre and the Valencian Archive of Design.
