In the early afternoon of Wednesday 22 April 2020 died Dr. Manuel Pérez Ripoll, Emeritus Professor of the Universitat de València who finished his doctorate in 1987.
Manuel Pérez Ripoll's involvement in the Department of Prehistory, Archaeology and Ancient History, of which he was a professor in several undergraduate, graduate and master's degree courses, has been a decisive contribution to many scientific careers.
His enthusiasm and tenacity to renew the methodology of the study of prehistoric fauna have made him a European reference in archaeozoological studies, especially in the processing and management of fauna among prehistoric hunters and farmers in the Mediterranean region. His name will remain linked in the study of such decisive archaeological sites as Cueva Negra, Cueva de la Cocina, Cueva del Oro, Ereta del Pedregal, Knossos, Cueva de Nerja, Tossal de la Roca, Cueva de los Cenizas, Coves de Santa Maira and Llonín.
Thanks to his generosity, the continuity of his work is guaranteed through the students he has trained in recent years. All of us who have enjoyed his work and friendship, sharing projects, excavations and trips, have lost the company of someone who used to hide, after the simplicity of his arguments, the rigorousness of an innovative scientist. In the current circumstances, his loss is even more painful, as we cannot share our emotions, which will have to wait until circumstances allow the organisation of an appropriate academic event. His memory will remain with us.
