Five students win the Olga Quiñones Awards for their research with a gender perspective

The students Gemma Fernández, Claudia Gonzáles, Tania Ruiz, Pilar Domínguez and Elisa Simó have been awarded with the Olga Quiñones Award for their research papers. The awards acknowledge the incorporation of gender perspective and the commitment to equality among women and men in the modalities of undergraduate degree final project, master’s degree final project and doctoral thesis. The awards were handed by the principal Mavi Mestre in a ceremony held on Friday 16 June at the Paranymph of the University of Valencia.
The principal of the University of Valencia, Mavi Mestre was accompanied by the director of the University Institute of Women’s Studies, Gabriela Moriana; and the vice-principal for Equality, Diversity and Inclusive Policies, Helena Rausell. The ceremony was conducted by the director of the Equality Unit, Rosa Mochales, and attended by the retired professor of the University of Valencia, Ester Barberá.
The A. Olga Quiñones Fernández Award aims to reward studies about women and that include a gender perspective or are committed to effective gender equality between women and men. Three modalities are awarded: Undergraduate Degree Final Project, Master’s Degree Final Project and Doctoral Thesis.
For the Undergraduate Degree Final Project, the jury agreed on the quality of the two works presented and decided to award the prize equally to:
-La sociabilidad en el arte del siglo XIX, mujeres, espacio y creación en la académie julian (Sociability in 19th century art, women, space and creation in the Académie Julian) by Gemma Fernández González, supervised by professor Maria Angeles Pérez Martín.
-Barreras en la prevención del VPH en adolescentes (Barriers to HPV prevention in adolescents) by Claudia Gonzáles Boluda, supervised by professor Carles Xavier Simó Noguera.
For the modality of Master’s Degree Final Project, the jury has awarded the prize to:
-El sesgo de género en el proceso diagnóstico del autismo y sus consecuencias para las mujeres (The gender bias in the diagnostic process of autism and its consequences for women) by Tania Ruiz Gil, supervised by professor Xavier Montagut Mayor.
For the Undergraduate Doctoral Thesis, the jury agreed on the quality and excellence of the two theses presented and decided to award the prize equally to:
-Procesos de subjetivación y salud en mujeres cuidadoras desde un enfoque feminista y participativo (Processes of subjectivation and health in women carers from a feminist and participatory approach), by Pilar Domínguez Castillo, supervised by professor Amparo Bonilla Campos.
-Justicia con perspectiva de género: análisis cuantitativo de estereotipos y revisión de la imparcialidad judicial en procesos por violencia sexual (Justice with a gender perspective: quantitative analysis of stereotypes and review of judicial impartiality in sexual violence prosecutions), by Elisa Simó Soler, supervised by professor Elena Martínez García.
Olga Quiñones
The award is named after A. Olga Quiñones Fernández, the first director of the Equality Unit of the University of Valencia and a woman linked to this institution and the fight for gender equality. This award is part of the fifth central concept of the II Equality Plan of the University of Valencia (2013-2017), dedicated to research and teaching and confirming the will of promoting and strengthening the gender perspective in the undergraduate degree and postgraduate studies and the research contents, which has been kept in the current III Equality Plan (2019-2022) of the institution.
