With great success, the 36th Spanish Physics Olympics 2025 comes to an end in Valencia

On Monday, 14 April, the closing and award ceremonies of the 36th edition of the Spanish Physics Olympics (OEF) took place. which throughout the days 11, 12, 13 and 14, the Faculty of Physics of the Universitat de València organised on the Burjassot and Blasco Ibáñez Campuses.

On 12 April, the Faculty of Physics received the 100 participants who, in morning and afternoon sessions, faced experimental theoretical tests the academic committee had prepared. Meanwhile, the 40 delegates of all the universities of the State and one delegation from Morocco were offered a presentation of the physics demonstrations collection from the Faculty an the explanation and solution of the proposed tests to the student body. After such an intense and difficult day, 13, every participant enjoyed of a visit to the Experimenta Fair-Contest and to the Science Museum an the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia, followed by guided visit to the city centre. After the visit ended, out Botanical Garden accommodated the participants in its auditorium for the institutional presentation of the Faculty of Physics, of the research institutes associated with and the Science Park of the UV. The session ended up regaining strength in the incomparable and relaxing atmosphere of the Botanical Garden, where the student body, the delegations and the organisation were able to exchange experiences and impressions.

The closing and award ceremony of the 36th edition of the OEF took place at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the UV. With the presence of the Rectrix Magnifica, M. Vicenta Mestre, and led by the Vice-Principal for Studies, Isabel Vázquez, they proceeded to the award ceremony for the most distinguished of students: 25 honourable mentions, 20 bronze medals, 15 silver medals and 10 gold medals, which the participants received amongst joy and congratulation from the attending public. The first nine qualifiers will participate in the International Olympics in Paris, on 1 and 5 July, and in the Ibero-American Olympics in Mexico, on 6 and 9 September.

The Valencian delegation completely focused on receiving the first gold medal: the student Carlos Calderón Alba was awarded the highest of honours at the Olympics for the magnificent solution he gave to the posed exercises. Followed by two bronzes, won by the students Andreu Sanchis Sánchez and Carlos Celada Esteve and an honourable mention received by the student Miguel García. It is important to note, and it is a reason for extra congratulation, that it is the second consecutive time that Carlos wins a gold medal, given that in the 2024 edition (35th Olympics) he was awarded with the highest honour.

From the Faculty of Physics of the Universitat de València, we want to express our sincerest congratulations to all of the participants, and most especially to the winners, as well as to thank all the delegates, sponsoring organisations, collaborating staff and student body with all the provided assistance, which without their help the celebration would not have been possible, and very notable, the support that we have had since the beginning from the Universitat de València.
