The II International Workshop on Liver and Gut Fibrosis, which will take place on October 26 and 27 at ADEIT in Valencia. The meeting will address the molecular mechanisms involved in the different types of fibrosis, particularly liver and intestinal fibrosis. The congress is organised by the University of Valencia, sponsored by CIBEREHD and FISABIO, and backed by the main international (EASL, ECCO) and Spanish societies in the field.

The workshop, which will be held on October 26 and 27 at ADEIT-Fundació Universitat-Empresa of València, is aimed at clinicians and basic/translational researchers from universities and research institutes, as well as professionals working in hospitals and health services – medical students, medical and nursing staff.

Fibrosis is a highly prevalent health problem throughout the world characterised by excessive growth of fibrous tissue due to chronic inflammation and impaired tissue remodelling and repair processes. It is produced in various organs, including the lung, kidney, liver, and intestine, and is a key component of major pathologies such as cystic fibrosis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Although research has advanced remarkably in recent years, the molecular mechanisms involved in the development of fibrosis remain unclear, and there are very few effective therapeutic options to tackle fibrosis, with no antifibrotic drug treatments currently available. specific for the intestine or liver.

The II International Workshop on Liver and Intestinal Fibrosis will focus its program on the molecular mechanisms involved in the different types of fibrosis, particularly that found in the intestine and liver, in order to explore new pathways that can lead to an improvement in current therapies and the discovery of new pharmacological approaches.
