The Jardí Botànic closing down this Sunday the

This Sunday 29 January, the Jardí Botànic de la Universitat de València homes a special day of closing down the "Art al Jardí" exhibition, a sample exploring the bounds between art and nature and adding an innovated vision of the botanical world. During the whole day, the entry to the Jardí Botànic will be free, guided visits will be celebrated and a painting workshop will be imparted in which works from the exhibition will be reproduced. Furthermore, the sample’s catalogue can be adquired.

“Art al Jardí”, exhibition which has homed the two rooms of the Jardí from the last 12 November, 15 artists members of the “Art, Science ajd Nature” research group, of the Complutense University of Madri, puts the artistic creativity to the service of the science and research. The exposed works are artistic interpretations of the vegetal world, fruit of several projects carried out at institutions as CSIC or the Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid along with unpublished works made explicity for the Botànic. Nature is, therefore, indisputable protagonist of the several induvial languages used (sculptures, photographs, resin, aluminium, woodcarving, etc.) which configure an innovative vision of the botanical world through creativity and sensitivity of the artists.

In parallel, a Conferences Cycle has been celebrated in which four professionals of the artistic and scientific field invited us to reflected on the bounds between art and vegetal world, witch a scientific, philosophical and aesthetical character.

Thee “Art, Science and Nature” group, founded in 1992, has the main objective of the diffusion of the Science and the study of Nature through Art in order to reach the largest part of the society and to reveal the patrimony of the scientific institutions. Among the most highlighted projects, we can find the creation of an sculpture based on DNA molecule at the Faculty of Biological Sciences of the UCM, the sculpture “The Fountain” in collaboration with CIB and UCM, several interventions at Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid or the project “Germinating Art and Science”, in which the wealth of the germplasm bank of the CSIC were spread. Fruit of the contributions of the research group was the Medal to the Spanish Scientific Association of 2006.
