The Joan Reglà Library of Humanities inaugurates on Thursday 24th, at 6.30 p.m., an extensive comic section that includes the most important collection of books and theoretical publications on comics in the Spanish university environment. Supported by the Comic Studies Chair Fundación SM-Universitat de València, the theoretical collection, which will be available to students and researchers, includes more than 1,000 references that will consolidate the transversal research on comics at the Universitat de València from fields as varied as the history of art, sociology, education, philology or applications in science, a body that will favour the work of those who want to carry out their academic research in these areas.

The rise of interest in comic research, turned into a growing number of doctoral theses and degree and master's degree final projects, as well as the implementation of studies on comics in both official and specific degrees, will have an important support thanks to this section, which will be regularly updated with the publications that appear in this field.

Moreover, the section will have an extensive catalogue of comics, which will make it possible to analyse the reality of an art continuously evolving. The inauguration of this section, which has a mural specially created by Barbiturikilss (Bárbara Sebastián), will be held on Thursday 24th February, at 6.30 p.m., with the conference by Antonio Altarriba 'Comic research in Spain'. Altarriba, a renowned author and winner of the National Comic Prize, is also one of the pioneering academics in comic research in Spain, and wrote one of the first theses on comics to be read in our country. The conference will take place in the Library's Training Room and will also include the participation of Barbiturikilss and Álvaro Pons, Comic Studies Chairs Fundación SM-Universitat de València.

Antonio Altarriba

Antonio Altarriba (Zaragoza, 1952), full university professor of French philology at the University of the Basque Country, has developed in parallel an intense career as an essayist, writer and comic scriptwriter. Author of pioneering essays such as 'Comicsarías' (together with Antoni Remesar, 1987) or 'La España del tebeo' (2001), and founder of fundamental magazines such as Neuróptica, he has also worked as a comic scriptwriter since the 1980s. His career was consolidated with the publication of 'El arte de volar' (Ponent, 2009), together with Kim, which received the National Comic Prize. The work forms a fundamental diptych on the Spanish history with 'El ala rota' (2016).
