José Mª Peiró, conferred Honoris Causa by the University of Florence

José Mª Peiró, emeritus professor of the Universitat de València and former dean of the Faculty of Psychology, has been invested this Tuesday as Honoris Causa Doctor by the University of Florence. Peiró was a professor in the Department of Work and Organisational Psychology at the Universitat de València.

The Italian university has recognised his long career related to teaching, the design of international education programmes, his researches, his international contribution to the discipline and the transfer of knowledge to the resolution of people's problems, among others. His lecture on accepting the investiture was dedicated to applied psychology as a paradigm.

Peiró is an honorary member of the Valencian Society of Psychology, and has been director of the Institute for Research in Psychology of Human Resources, Organisational Development and Quality of Working Life at the University of Valencia (IDOCAL) and president of the International Association of Applied Psychology.

In his research, Professor Peiró has addressed numerous topics and analysed in depth the challenges of our world, such as work in an increasingly digitalised context (accelerated by the pandemic), the well-being of workers in these new environments, and sustainability. On an international scale, he has carried out work of great relevance, including the presidency of the EAWOP (European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology, 1995-97) and of the IAAP (International Association of Applied Psychology, 2011-2014).

Professor Peiró is also a full member of the Spanish Academy of Psychology and has been awarded Honorary Doctorates by the Methodist University of Sao Paulo (2010), the Miguel Hernández University (2017), the University of Maastricht (2020), the Federico Villareal National University (2021) and the University of Coïmbra (2023).
